Romania has been much in the news since the decline of communism and the dramatic overthrow of the Ceausescu regime. The landscape of Romania is dominated by the great curve of the Carpathian Mountains, and this detailed physical map shows relief by a combination of layer colouring and hill shading. Covering the whole of Romania at approximately 12 miles to one inch, this map extends eastwards from the borders with Hungary and Yugoslavia to Moldavia, the Danube Estuary and the Black Sea coast. To the north is the Ukraine and to the south, Bulgaria. The physical mapping is enhanced with road detail and much motoring and tourist information. There are five levels of road classification, with distances on all major routes and petrol stations market. Railways, ferry routes, ports and airports are also featured, plus national parks, caves, ancient sites, spas, beaches, historic buildings, motels, tourist chalets and campsites. Detailed, large-scale city plans of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Constanta are included as insets around the main map. There is also a plan of the Black Sea resort of Mamaia.
